How To Use the Stylus to Write on the Sympodium Screen (i.e. the monitor)»
1. To Project the Instructor's Computer Screen to the Wall
- a. Turn on the power of the sympodium by pressing the power button located on the upper-right corner of the Sympodium screen
- b. Turn on the power of the Sharp projector using the remote control stored in the keyboard drawer, and press the "INPUT 1 " button
- c. Turn on the power of the Kramer 3X1 VGA/Audio Switcher, located in the keyboard drawer. If the power is turned on, one of the white push buttons on the right should be lit.
- d. Push the corresponding button on the front panel of the Kramer 3X1 VGA/Audio Switcher
- e. If no display, check if the computer locked inside the podium is powered on
- f. See the Notes at the bottom of this page if you rebooted the desktop computer
2. To Use the Stylus to Write on the Sympodium Screen (i.e. the monitor)
- Stylus is the silver plastic-looking pen stored in the keyboard drawer
- To write on surface of the Sympodium's screen, i.e. the computer monitor, first select a font color by pressing one of color buttons on the top of the Sympodium's screen, and then write
- You might want to open the "SmartBoard Notebook" application located on the desktop to save your writings.
- To restore the stylus pen to a mouse's function, press the left-pointed Arrow button on top of the Sympodium screen
- To use the DocCamera (Samsung SDP 900DXR), first fully pull out the DocCamera drawer located at the right side of this wooden podium (You need unlock the lock first)
- Turn on the power by pressing the shining metal button on the lower-left corner of the DocCamera
- Do Steps from 1(a) to 1(c)
- Push the corresponding button on the front panel of the Kramer 3X1 VGA/Audio Switcher
4. To Hook up Your Own Notebook
- To hook your own notebook computer, use the set of cable bundle laying on the top of the wooden podium. It includes the power plugs, an Ethernet network cable, and a VGA video cable.
- Turn on the power of your notebook. (You notebook should be configured to get an IP address automatically to get online)
- Press the key combination on your notebook to let it send screen output to external display devices. (Your computer manual should tell you which key combination it is. Fn and F7 are the usually the combination of most notebook computers)
- Do Steps from 1(a) to 1(c)
- Push the corresponding button on the front panel of the Kramer 3X1 VGA/Audio Switcher
5. To Use the DVD Player to play a DVD disc
- The DVD player is located in the lower-right grid of the sympodium. Its mode is APEX AD-1200.
- First, turn on the power of the Audio Amplifier sitting on top of the DVD player. Its model is TOA Integrated Amplifier BG-1030.
- Turn on the power of the Sharp projector using the remote control stored in the keyboard drawer, and press the "INPUT 4 " button
- Turn on the power of the DVD player, insert your DVD disc, and push the Play button on the DVD Player's panel (or use the remote control of the DVD player).
- Use the knob for DVD on the TOA Audio Amplifier to adjust the sound volume.
- The remote control for the DVD is stored in the keyboard drawer.
6. To Use the Computer to play a DVD disc
- The desktop computer inside the podium is also installed with a DVD Player software.
- First, turn on the power of the Audio Amplifier sitting on top of the DVD player. Its model is TOA Integrated Amplifier BG-1030.
- Do Steps from 1(a) to 1(e)
- Login to the computer
- Insert your DVD disc into the DVD Drive of the desktop computer
- Run either the Windows Media Player or the PowerDVD Player Software installed
- Use the knob for DVD on the TOA Audio Amplifier to adjust the sound volume.
- The sound volume can be adjusted using the knobs on the TOA Audio Amplifier sitting on top of the DVD player inside the podium.
- If the sound is from the desktop computer, use the knob labeled as "Desktop Computer."
- If the sound is from the Apex DVD player (not the DVD-ROM of the desktop computer), use the knob labeled as "DVD."
- Call 453-6051, or 453-6052, or 536-2327 to report problems in using this sympodium system.
Note: When you boot up or reboot the instructor's computer locked inside the podium, the screen on the desk might have no display after the boot, even though the projector has displayed. When this happens, powering off the screen and powering it on again will fix it. (You need wait until the computer completely finishes the booting process, i.e. when you see the Windows' Ctrl-Alt-Delete prompt through the projection).
