ASONAM 2023 Best Student Paper Award
SIU's Ph.D. Student Bhargav Krishna Thota Distinguished with Best Student Paper Award at Internationally Acclaimed ASONAM 2023
The School of Computing's Computer Science Degree Program at SIU proudly celebrates the academic excellence of Bhargav Krishna Thota, a Ph.D. student who has been awarded the Best Student Paper Award at the internationally acclaimed IEEE/ACM International Conference on Advances in Social Networks Analysis and Mining (ASONAM) 2023. Recognized as one of the top conferences in social networking, ASONAM has recently been distinguished by inclusion in the CORE rankings, signifying its prominence in the global research community.
CORE, the Computing Research and Education Association of Australia, represents the collective voice of university departments of computer science in Australia and New Zealand. Since its incorporation on the 4th of March, 2021, CORE has been at the forefront of fostering professional development, advancing research and teaching in computer science and IT, and promoting international cooperation among academia and industry.
The recognition of ASONAM by CORE underscores the conference's commitment to presenting cutting-edge research that bridges multiple disciplines and methodologies, focusing on the rapid advancements in social network analysis and mining. The award-winning paper by Bhargav, co-authored with Dr. Xiaoqing Liu, Dean of the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics, is emblematic of the innovative and rigorous research that ASONAM embodies.
Entitled "Assessing Impact of Social Network on Formation of Opinions in Integrated Intelligent Argumentation with Social Network," their paper offers a novel perspective on the complex interplay of social networks and opinion dynamics, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of ASONAM's scope. The research presented by Bhargav and Dr. Liu quantifies the impact of social networking on a large-scale cyber argumentation. These impacts can reveal the patterns, shifts, and relationships between the users in a discourse.
This research is a part of their broader research on Intelligent Argumentation with Social Networking. Their Mobile App XArgue (https://xargue.cs.siu.edu), provides a cyber-argumentation platform integrated with social networking available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Feel Free to download and use it.
SIU's School of Computing is honored by the international recognition awarded to Bhargav and Dr. Liu. This accolade from a CORE-listed conference not only highlights the significant impact of their work but also reinforces the global standing of SIU's Computer Science degree program as a hub of pioneering research and academic distinction.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Bhargav Krishna Thota and Dr. Xiaoqing Liu for their outstanding contribution to the field and for upholding the highest standards of research excellence at a global forum.
