Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States and one of the great leaders in American history. A humane, far-sighted statesman in his lifetime, he became a legend and a folk hero after his death. There are many historic places in Illinois because of Lincoln.
The Lincoln Monument in Illinois commemorates Abraham Lincoln’s 1832 service in the Black Hawk War. It was sculpted by Leonard Crunelle and was dedicated on September 24, 1930.
Eight miles south of Charleston lay Lincoln’s log cabin which is on the farm where he moved to in 1837. Lincoln Log Cabin hosts several special events. People from all around the world come to visit and see where Lincoln lived and worked on the farm.
Dedicated in 1874, Lincoln Tomb is the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln. The scene of funeral services for Abraham Lincoln on May 4, 1865. In 1960 the Tomb was designated a National Historic Landmark and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
